The Argentine Government welcomes the agreement reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran on this country’s nuclear program, an agreement that also included China, Russia, France, United Kingdom and Germany, along with the European Union.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action reached today is an integral solution and a contribution to non-proliferation and international security.
It also represents a significant achievement in the dialogue process regarding a highly sensitive issue, on which the parties have been in open conflict in the past, and now the deadlock has been broken after over ten years of difficult negotiations.
Under the agreement, the Islamic Republic of Iran has committed to provide assurances regarding the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities, under the monitoring of the International Atomic Energy Agency, in return for the lifting of sanctions on that country.
Consistent with its long held stance, Argentina reaffirms its position in favor of non-proliferation, and the use and development of nuclear energy solely for peaceful purposes. As well as, its permanent hope that these values be shared by all countries, without exception.
Likewise, it stresses that dialogue and diplomatic negotiations are the best tools for a lasting and effective solution.
